PORT AUX BASQUES, NL – Members of the Port aux Basques RCMP, Stephenville Search and Rescue (SAR) and Mobile Response Unit (MRU) are combing the area outside of Isle aux Morts again this morning, April 16, in search of 80-year-old Gilbert Munden.
Munden has been missing since Saturday night, April 14. He was en route to his cabin, roughly 20 kilometres inland from route 470. A searcher from SAR said that so far Munden or his snowmobile have not yet been located. However, it is hoped that a helicopter unit will have more success today.
Search efforts were hampered somewhat yesterday by high winds, which caused gusting snow.
Assisting in the search are local volunteers from Isle aux Morts, a small town of approximately 600 people.
Update: As of 5:30 pm, locals report that Munden has been found alive. RCMP stated he was found in good health but taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
