It appears pleasant and brisk weather on the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas won’t last long today. Environment Canada has issued snow squall warnings for both areas.

The weather office is forecasting flurries, squalls and blowing snow to start today and taper off this evening. While most areas can expect a five-centimetre dusting of snow, areas beneath bands of heavier squalls could get up to 20 cm.

With the potential for rapid accumulation of snow, Environment Canada advises motorists to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Meanwhile, the weather office is also tracking a potential system that could bring significant snow, freezing rain and/or rain to much of the island late Friday night and into Saturday.
