Mike and Rowena Hancock have been set for life since Christmas Eve, but it was 10 days before they knew their lives had changed.
The Airport Heights couple are Atlantic Canada’s latest Set For Life winners and were presented with their cheque at the Atlantic Lottery Corporation’s Newfoundland and Labrador offices on Tuesday.
Mike purchased two scratch-to-win tickets for Rowena’s Christmas stocking stuffers at Marie’s Mini-Mart in Airport Heights over the lunch-hour on Christmas Eve. The tickets sat in their home unscratched until last Wednesday when, after clearing out from the blizzard, the pair decided to scratch them off.
When they did, three Set For Life logos were revealed, at which time Rowena says they did their happy dance in their kitchen.
Mike, 45, a software developer and Rowena, 42, a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), said they will both continue to work, but will become mortgage free, plan a European vacation, and purchase a new Louis Vuitton purse for Rowena.
Set For Life has a top prize of a $1000 per week for 25 years or a lump sum of $675,000, which the Hancock’s elected to take.
