There is no need to wait for spring cleaning to tidy up all those rooms in your home brimming over with stuff … stuff you don’t need.
So why not gather it up, especially if you live in the A1E postal code region of St. John’s, leave it at the end of your driveway and be part of the Take Two, UPS and The Telegram inaugural donation drive.
Take the opportunity to experience the feeling of volunteering and community pride without having to take time out of your busy schedule this October, which is national volunteer month.
Take Two is a non-profit organization that collects used clothing and small household items, and then resells them at an affordable price.
Like many not-for-profit organizations, Empower sees social enterprise as a way of developing financial stability for the organization and also employ people with disabilities.
“We always have a need for men’s clothing. For some reason, men don’t like to part with their things, but we certainly could use them,’’ said Kimberly Yetman Dawson, executive director of Empower, The Disability Resource Centre, the organization that operates Take Two Gently and Used Clothing in Ropewalk Lane Plaza.
“With the cold weather coming, we can use coats of all types and other cold weather gear; in addition to clothing and small household items that take up space in your home,’’ she added.
Take Two, The Telegram and UPS are joining forces on Saturday to collect clothing and household items in the A1E postal code area of St. John’s. UPS will be driving around the A1E area starting at 10 a.m. collecting donations placed at the end of the driveways.
If you do not live in the A1E area, don’t worry, as the store is always willing to accept donations at 38 Ropewalk Lane. In addition, while you are there, you can take time to look around the store and maybe even find a treasure to buy.
Donations can also be dropped off at UPS at 50 Hamlyn Ave. or The Telegram at 36 Austin St.
By contributing to the drive, you not only are supplying a not-for-profit store with goods, but you are ensuring that your less-used items, be it clothing or home décor, are going to be used once again by someone else.
In addition to cleaning up your home, donating to Take Two is great for the environment, as it supports the notion of reduce, reuse and recycle.
This donation drive is a great way to give back to the community, as well as bringing awareness to the importance of not-for-profit organizations such as Take Two. These organizations thrive with your support, and any size of donation is appreciated.
Take Two Gently-used Clothing and More is located in the Ropewalk Lane Plaza at 38 Ropewalk Lane. The store is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

It’s a social enterprise, meaning all funds raised stay locally to support the charity, Empower, The Disability Resource Centre's programs and services to help persons with disabilities live independently.
It employs persons with a variety of disabilities.
Because Empower is a charity, it doesn’t charge customers any tax.
