The driver of a taxi was taken to hospital early Sunday morning after his cab left the road on Pitts Memorial Drive and crashed into a guardrail. The vehicle was left perched on the rail as rescue workers placed the man aboard an ambulance for transport. The incident happened in the eastbound lane just before the exit for Commonwealth Avenue. Eastern Health paramedics, the St. John’s Regional fire department and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary all responded to the incident. It’s believed the man may have suffered a medical emergency before the incident but his injuries were not thought to be serious.
