Two people have reportedly gone through the ice on Mobile Big Pond, roughly nine kilometres inland from Mobile on the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula.
Unconfirmed reports from residents near the area say that one person is being brought to hospital, while the other is unaccounted for.
Emergency crews are on the scene.
The pond itself is one of two reservoirs used by Newfoundland Power. Residents suggest that the ice in the area is frequently brittle, due to the nature of the reservoir.
