JEANS Alma Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Tiffany Village, Alma Jeans, age 100 years. Predeceased by parents Archibald and Isabella (Herald) LeMessurier; husband, Bruce Jeans, daughter, Linda Dunne and son, Derrick and by her brother, Cyril. Leaving to mourn her son-in-law, Bill Dunne, nieces, Vicki Butt and Gloria Coombs, nephews, Philip Jeans, Craig, Mac and Bob LeMessurier; numerous grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews; special friends at Tiffany Village, Jean Stirling, Dorothy Kearney, Mary Barron, Josephine Mooney, Nita MacDonald, Genevieve Lambe, and Margaret Hamilton. Alma grew up on Bond and William Streets and attended Bishop Spencer College. She worked as a secretary at Furness Withy Ltd. for many years. She married Bruce Jeans who worked at Bowering’s and the Better Business Bureau. One of her greatest pleasures growing up was to visit Bowring Park by Street car and railway coach and her Uncle George LeMessurier’s farm in Kilbride, now part of the park. On one occasion there, while recuperating from a back operation in Montreal, she witnessed the blimp, Hindenburg, flying overhead. On October 26, 2019, Alma celebrated her 100th birthday at a reception for family and friends at Tiffany Village, where she resided. At the reception she was in receipt of messages from the Queen, Governor General, Lieutenant Governor and Premier. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue with visitations on Friday, February 21st from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral service to be held from Barrett’s Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 22nd at 2pm. Interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in Alma’s memory may be made to The Gathering Place.
