Anna Mccarthy

MCCARTHY Anna (Hamlyn) (1939-2019) It is with heavy hearts that the McCarthy and Hamlyn families announce the passing of Anna, on December 9, 2019, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her son Michael (Louise), daughter Karen, and her precious granddaughter, Megan, Nana’s pride and joy. Her brothers and sisters; Alice Blundon (Edgar), Betty Hearn, Mary Holloway, Clare Sikorsky (Mike) Cathy Parsons (Dick), Brenda Humby (Derrick), Jim Hamlyn (Dallis) and Max Hamlyn (Ken), sisters-in-law Geraldine Hamlyn and Georgina Martin. Predeceased by her husband Mike, parents Robert and Alice Hamlyn, brothers Charlie and Bob. Also left to mourn are her many nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family. A true force of nature, Anna was a devoted sister, mother and wife. She was devoted to her younger brothers and sisters, who were like her first children. Her devotion to her own children was unsurpassed. To her daughter Karen, for whom she was both the greatest mother and advocate one could ask for. To her son Michael, she was always both a great source of support and encouragement, traits she also continued with Louise and then as “Nanna” for Megan. Her love of children lead her to a career as a teacher where her devotion to her students was outstanding. All those who knew her would recognize “the look.” She faced her illness as she faced life, with profound strength and courage, but she never let it define her. We have lost a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, classmate, colleague, and friend. Our lives are far richer for having known and loved her! Resting peacefully at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue. Visitation Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday 12 noon to 9 p.m. Funeral to be at St. Peter’s Parish, Ashford Drive, Mount Pearl, Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to Special Olympics Mount Pearl, The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation, or Dr. L. A. Miller Center Palliative Care Unit. To view the online memorial guest book or leave a message of condolence, please visit www.barretts.ca
