Anna Wiseman

Anna Wiseman
WISEMAN Anna (nee Nagle) Her life was well lived and she was well loved! Passed away at Tiffany Village after a brief illness with family at her side on November 19th, 2019 in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband Bill (2008), parents James and Bridget Nagle, sisters Mary Ryan, Agatha Seaward, Ursula Murphy, brothers Martin, Percy, Joe and Jim Nagle. Survived by sibling, Sister Colette Nagle. She will be sorely missed by her children, Bill (Michele Gibeault), Wayne (Yvonne Bradbury), Gemma (Jim Langor), Paulette, Darryl (Zondra). Her grandchildren; Jacob and Chelsea Wiseman, Joshua Bradbury-Wiseman (Elizabeth Day), Luke Wiseman, Gillian Langor (Russell Sherman), Nicholas (Stephanie Avery), Sean and Erin Langor, Dylan and Connor Wiseman, beloved nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends are left with many happy and beloved memories. Anna was born on April 16, 1923 in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay. She studied Education at Memorial University and loved her teaching career which spanned intervals over four decades in such places as Riverhead, Mall Bay, Placentia, Fortune Harbour, Bishop’s Falls and Grand Falls. During the later part of her career she was especially gratified when teaching children with special needs. Anna met her soulmate in Fortune Harbour, married, and settled in Buchans where the new Wiseman clan began. Here too her entrepreneurial idea was hatched. With four very young children in tow she moved to Bishop’s Falls to start, from the ground up, Wiseman’s Groceteria. Bill remained in Buchans until the business was on stable ground. Her strong will, determination, quick computational skills and resolve to succeed made her well know amongst business suppliers as a feisty business woman who drove a hard bargain and one whom you could never get over her time. Following retirement Anna and Bill became snowbirds; they thoroughly enjoyed their winters in Florida always forming new friendships and enjoying life to the fullest. Anna was happiest when engaged in social interaction of any sort whether it was playing cards, scrabble, dancing or simply chatting. Anna was a person of strong faith and lived her life rooted in the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, volunteered with MQP food bank, received citations from the Red Cross for her work with youth groups and participated in various community organizations over the years. All who knew and loved Anna will never forget her strong will, tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and dignity. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. She exercised little constraint in holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it as it was in the kindest possible way. The family would like to thank the 8th floor staff at Tiffany Village and Dr. Mercedes Penton for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care during Anna’s brief illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Katie Saunders for her professionalism, ongoing support and care over the years. Please join the family for visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, Friday, Nov. 22nd from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 135 Torbay Road, Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. In Anna’s memory, donations can be made to the MQP food bank.
