Arvo Arnold Mcmillan

Arvo Arnold Mcmillan
1939 – 2019 We said goodbye to Arvo on Sunday, January 20th. The son of Colin Brock McMillan and Nellie Lehtonen, Arvo was born in Arvida, Quebec. He leaves behind his wife Margie (Muggah) and sons Colin (Marie Eve Gregoire) and Paul who he viewed with wonder and deep love. Also brother-in-law Henry Muggah and his wife Betty (Crookshank) and sister-in-law Barb McMillan. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce. We would particularly like to mention nieces and nephews, Sean, Liz, Rob and Alex Muggah as well as Kim Gauthier, Rochelle, Deidre, Chris and Paula McMillan for their love and support over the past months. Arvo delighted in his Finnish heritage and strong Maritime Loyalist roots. As an urban planner he worked in Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia as well as St. John’s and Corner Brook. He dearly loved the time spent working throughout all corners of the province up until two years ago. This fed his enthusiasm for his adopted home and he never missed an opportunity to take along his kayak and bicycle to better explore some of the most beautiful parts of the world while on the job. “This is so much fun, I’d do it for nothing” - one of his favorite expressions. He was quietly passionate about poetry, words, wetlands, his fiddles and buttered popcorn, fine scotch and above all the absurd. Many thanks to all those in the health care system, nurses and doctors who saw to Arvo’s challenges. Above all we will so miss his deeply inquisitive, questioning and roaming mind. Reception to be held on Thursday, January 24 from 3-6pm at the Fluvarium, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Please call Amanda at Barrett’s, 579-6007 for details. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LSPU Hall or Nature Newfoundland and Labrador. This would please Arvo.
