Rena Butts (Maclean) — Pickering, Ont.

It is with sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother and Nana, on Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Chartwell Residences in Pickering, Ont. Predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Don. Loving mother of Janet Butts, Richard (Lucy) Butts and Mary (Mark) Watson. Cherished Nana of Amanda Coates, Alex, Daniel and Will Butts, Treena Colthart (Lorne) and Donnie Watson. Rena was born in Tarbot, Cape Breton, one of nine children, to Allan MacLean and Rhodena Matheson. Rena was predeceased by her parents; and her siblings, Margaret, Evelyn, Belle, Jean, Bessie, Aileen, Murdock and Roy. Our mother enjoyed a full life, always interested in the goings on around her. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage, the music and the dancing. Rena particularly enjoyed her summer retreat in the Kawarthas, gardening, entertaining and most of all her grandchildren. Rena will be interned with her family on Cape Breton Island, her favourite place on earth, in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers we ask that you perform a simple act of kindness in her name. Our family wishes to thank all the staff of Chartwell Residences, the nurses from Homewell and extended family members and close friends, particularly our family's greatest friends - the Forget family, who provided comfort and companionship to her in her later years.
