TULK Beaton With profound sadness and broken hearts, we announce the passing of Beaton Tulk, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who died following a lengthy battle with cancer on 23 May 2019 at the age of 75 years. Beaton is lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife Dora; daughter Cynthia (John) and children Ryan and Nicole; daughter Christine (Henry) and son Jeremy; son Conrad (Amelia); step-daughter Alicia (Dan) and children Mackenzie and Chris; step-daughter Kerry-Lynn (Scott) and daughter Samantha; and very special great-granddaughter Jayda. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law Lee Humby (Harvey), Dorothy Holloway, Sandra Downey (Skip), and Bernice Clarke; brother-in-law Dave Cook; Aunt Hilda; Aunt Leah; partner in crime Bob Gosse; niece Gay Clarke, cousin Bertram Tulk, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Sadie and Japhet Tulk; sister Blanche; parents-in-law Otto and Amy Skiffington; brothers-in-law Boyd Skiffington, Don Skiffington, Gus Clarke, and Boyce Oake; sisters-in-law Amelia Cook and Alliston Skiffington.From his early life growing up in the output community of Ladle Cove, Beaton learned the values of hard work and giving back to the community. These values, along with his intellect and determination, guided him during his early career as a teacher and throughout his long and distinguished career in politics and public service. Starting out as the Member for Fogo and later Bonavista North, Beaton held numerous positions in both opposition and government and notably served as the 7th Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Never content to be still for long, his "retirement" years were filled with consulting, writing his memoirs, and travelling to visit family and friends with his beloved Dora.Beaton's unmistakable laugh filled every room he entered. His zest for life, fun-loving nature, gift to tell stories, and genuine interest in talking to everyone he met drew people to him wherever he went. Generous and kind, he loved nothing better than a good game of cards, particularly 500s or poker. An avid hockey fan, he would give an enthusiastic shout when watching the Montreal Canadiens score a goal. He never missed a moose-hunting season or a chance to cook up a big meal for a crowd. He thoroughly enjoyed Western movies, listening to country music while driving his big red truck, and woodworking; he was known to put up a patio in what seemed like no time at all. Always the person we could turn to for help when life got tough, he was truly one-of-a-kind and will be dearly missed. A public visitation will be held in the lobby of Confederation Building between 2:00 and 6:00 pm on Friday 24 May. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday 25 May at the Salvation Army Islandview Citadel in Musgravetown with Majors Austin and Lillian Randell officiating and at 2:00 pm on Sunday 26 May at St. Stephen’s United Church, Ladle Cove with Reverend Boyce Parsons officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kids Eat Smart Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fewer’s Funeral Home, Clarenville.
