Bernice Walsh
WALSH (Doran) Bernice It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Bernice. She passed away peacefully on February 17 at the QEII hospital in Halifax in the arms of her loving family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gerard Michael Walsh and her 7 children, Sharon (Bruce), Debora, Moya, Gerard (Joanne), Margot, Helen and Mark, siblings, Bill (Dana), Helen, Jeannie (Mario) and Barbara; she is pre-deceased by Basil, Lorraine and Rosemary. She was Nannabun to her 16 grandchildren, Rebecca, Victoria, Samuel, Maggie, Benjamin, Seamus, Noah, Gerard, John, Edward, Molly, Emma, Eric, Christopher, Katie and Jack. Born in St. John’s, NL, Bernice was the eldest daughter of the late William (Bill) Doran and Gertrude (Power). Though family was the most important thing to Bernice, she also enjoyed great success outside of the home. While raising seven children, she was a broadcaster and had a weekly consumer affairs program on CBC Radio in St. John’s for many years. She also enjoyed afternoons spinning records on VOWR. Always an advocate, she was the Assistant Deputy Minister of Provincial Consumer Affairs in NL, was involved with the Jaycettes, the Canadian Housing Design Council, the Consumers’ Association of Canada, and the Funeral Directors and Embalmers Assoc. of NL. She had an eye for design and architecture and later in life became an accomplished real estate agent with Pat King Real Estate winning awards for her achievements. Our family is very appreciative of the extraordinary and compassionate care Bernice received from all the nurses on ward 8.2 of the QEII as well as Dr. Stephen Workman and Dr. John Gale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the QEII Foundation Halifax https://qe2foundation.ca/ways-give/remember-life Or call 1 888 428 0220 or by mail to the QEII Foundation, 5657 Spring Garden Road, Park Lane Mall, Box 231, NS, B3J 3R4.
