Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Hospital surrounded by her family on January 17, 2021. Predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Thomas Shortall, in 2011. Also predeceased by parents, Jack & Laura Tobin, brothers Martin, Pat and Harry, as well as in-laws John & Gertrude Shortall. Leaving to mourn her devoted children, Elaine (Mike Cooke), Paula (Heber Halfyard) and Joanne (Al Gatherall), Robert (Calgary). Seven grandchildren - Krista English, Ian Power, Megan and Chelsea Shortall, Erica Halfyard, Jack and Luke Gatherall, brother George Tobin and special sister-in-law Millie Tobin, brother-in-law - Leonard Shortall (Peggy), sisters-in-law Joan Shortall, Florence Shortall and Amy Tobin. Special lifelong friends Bernice Parsons (Foran) and Rose Gravelle (Turpin) who were like daughters to her. As well she had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Mom grew up on the Tobin family farm on Old Petty Harbour Rd and remained in the area for all of her adult life. She was very proud to have been an alumna of Littledale College and she worked as a professional secretary for Chester Dawe before her children came along. In her younger days she was an active member of the Corpus Christi Church Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed working alongside her friends and our Dad at the Church Hall dinner functions. She had a beautiful garden that she nurtured for many years. A treasured grandmother, she helped out with childcare, attended many concerts and was very supportive when needed throughout their lives. She was a very kind, caring and pleasant lady who will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Our family would like to extend special thanks to doctors, nurses and staff at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital 7 East for the care given to our Mom in her final days.
