Catherine Gwenyth, 68, passed peacefully away surrounded by family on January 21, 2019. Gwen was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a degree in Education. As a military spouse, Gwen and her family toured the world. Gwen was a retired member of the Florida School Board. She will be fondly remembered for her work in assisting underprivileged students and their families from foreign countries with successfully settling in the United States. A talented pianist and musician, Gwen was the Music Director for St Luke’s Catholic Church, Middleburg, Fl. for many years. Gwen will be lovingly remembered by Vernon, her husband of 47 years; her daughter Melanie (Joseph), her son Vernon III (Misty), grandchildren Tyler, Maggie, Aidan, Bridget, and Daylon, great-granddaughter Allie, sisters Marilyn, Marina (Ron), brothers Ronald (Jacqueline), Raymond and many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Penny (Cal) and Elizabeth (Joe), Lillian (Kelvin) and Sheila (Gordon), brothers-in-law Brian (Janet), Bruce (Dian), and LB (Leesa), other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Rita Power, brothers Kelvin, Gordon, and sister Joan. Gwen’s free spirit and loving personality will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Contributions in Gwen’s memory may be made to Sun City Center Hospice House, 3723 Upper Creek Drive, Sun City Center, Florida US. A visitation for Gwen will be held Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 West Brandon Boulevard, Brandon, Florida 33511. A funeral mass will take place Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 4:00 PM, 2323 West Brandon Boulevard, Brandon, Florida 33511. A celebration of life will take place in St. John’s at a later date.
