KARREL, Samuel With profound sadness, the family of Samuel Karrel announce his passing on April 8, 2021. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Eva in 2017. Born in New Waterford, NS, on March 8, 1923 to parents Cam and Vera, Dad was the last surviving member of his family. He is survived by his seven children, Bryan (Carol), Miriam (Paul Girard), Debi (Bob Delvallet), Patsy (Steve Simon), Shelley, Pam (Alistair MacLeod), Curtis (Wendy Dauphinee Karrel); eight grandchildren, David, Vanessa, Natalie, Christopher, Allison, Jennifer, Ashley and Cassidy; eight great-grandchildren, Garrick, Connor, Grace, Jackson, Arlen, Greta, Louis and Eva. Dad was a WWII veteran, having served overseas in Europe from 1943 - 1945 for the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards, 1st Division. In later years, he enjoyed participating in many Remembrance Day Services as a proud Veteran. Returning from the war, Dad joined his father in the furniture business in New Waterford, and later opened stores in Sydney and Inverness. Dad loved his boats and spent many years in Baddeck and on the Bras d'Or lakes and purchased his last boat at the young age of 92! Dad was a Past Grand Master of Masons of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia. He was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Royal Arch Masons, McDougall Council, Philae Temple, The Royal order of Jesters, and the Universal Crafstmen Council of Engineers. He was also a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and served as Secretary for several Legions in Cape Breton. Sammy was one of a kind and had a lasting impact on all who knew him. The family would like to thank the staff of Camp Hill Hospital for the excellent care dad received during his time there. As per his wishes, the Family has donated his remains to Dalhousie University. Cremation will take place at a later date. A Masonic service will be held at a date to be determined.
