Dermot OToole

Dermot Otoole
O'TOOLE Dermot It is with great sadness that the family of Dermot O'Toole mourns his passing on January 15, after battling a long and complicated illness. Derm is survived by his sister Cynthia and his two brothers, Wilson and Larry, as well as his nieces Chantelle and Savannah, and nephews Bradley and Dylan, as well as Jacob, Holden and Bronson, and Julia and Ava, his great-nephews and great-nieces. As Gunner Dermot J. O'Toole of the Canadian Army, Derm was particularly proud of his contribution to his country, as was his father Gunner Paschal O'Toole, in whose footsteps he followed. The family is particularly grateful to his army buddies Billy Ryan, Howard Cousins and Jerry Dunphy who have been so supportive to him. In addition to their support, the support of his local buddies Dana McCarthy, Kevin Dunne and Jerry Johnson is a shining example of being there for someone. We are all, hopefully, remembered not only for our presences on this earth but also for some mark we particularly made. With Derm it was his generosity and ability to fix anything for anyone. Derm loved to know how things worked and loved taking them apart and putting them back properly if they were broken in any way. He was a real Mr. Fixit and if people don't remember him for that, it will be for his dry wit, of the Newfoundland variety. He will be missed by all his family and friends. His mother Madeline always remarked, "Derm is the soft-hearted one," and so indeed he was. A celebration of Derm's life will take place on Monday, January 18 from 6 to 9 pm at Fahey's Funeral Home in Fermeuse and a funeral mass on Tuesday at 11:30 am on Tuesday at Holy Apostles Church in Renews, followed by a burial.
