Edward (Ned) Collins

It is with great sorrow that the family of Edward Collins announces his passing at the Placentia Health Centre on November 18, 2018 at the age of 84. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Theresa of 61 years; daughters Rose Marie (Mike), Anne Marie (Bill), Sandra and son Francis (Anne Marie). Orphaned at the age of two, he was taken in by his Aunt Anne and raised along with her four children. His Aunt recognized his ambition and determination at an early age and he did not disappoint. He completed his high school education and began working on a cartography ship called the Fort Francis circumnavigating from Halifax to the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon where he met his future wife, Theresa. They settled in Jerseyside and began their family. While working on the Argentia Naval Base, he completed the Civil Engineering Program and began to teach and mentor his coworkers. Edward started his own construction company 43 years ago and continues to be a major employer in the Placentia area. Always up for a game of cards or a trip to Las Vegas, he was well known for his winning ability and was commonly referred to as "Aces Ed". Sociable in life, successful in business and kind to many, Edward will be missed. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 19th, from 2-9 p.m. at Maher’s Funeral Home, Placentia. Funeral Mass at Placentia Sacred Heart Church on Tuesday, November 20th, at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery.
