Elizabeth Ann Hawco

Elizabeth Ann Hawco
With our hearts full of love, sadness and the best of memories we announce the peaceful passing of our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all, Liz Hawco (Dower). Liz was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Elizabeth Dower and her sister Bride Power. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, her sisters Alice and Mary Dower, her brother Ronald (Shirley) Dower and her extended Dower and Hawco family. Born in Conche, NL, Liz grew up in St. Johnís and graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing. A serendipitous trip to a deli on the corner of Patrick Street led to a lifelong partnership with George. Together they welcomed four children: Paul (Allison), Diane (Alastair), Michael (Agena) and Stephanie (Rick). Liz was an immensely proud grandmother of eight grandchildren who were the lights of her life: Beth, Sam, Jack, Sophia, Sarah, Oliver, Skyler and Jasper. They were her greatest treasures and made putting up with raising her four children worthwhile. Liz was a passionate, dedicated and caring nurse, finding her true calling in psychiatric nursing. Her loving, tolerant and progressive views were evidenced in her advocacy for de-stigmatizing mental illness and she was a true and early ally to the LGBTQ2S+ community. Her door was always open and she somehow made time for everyone, especially those in need. Her beautiful spirit lives on in all of us who were lucky to share her light. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral 2 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 from Caulís Chapel. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association. “She’s moving on up to the east side, to a deluxe apartment in the sky.”
