Ethel M. Lawton
LAWTON Ethel M. (nee Brown) Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family, Ethel M. Lawton on December 11 in her 92nd year. Ethel was born in King's Cove, Bonavista Bay on October 25, 1928. She was predeceased by her husband, best friend and love-of-her-life of 62 years, Dr. Louis E. Lawton. Also predeceased by her father the Hon. Kenneth M. Brown, MHA, OBE, her mother Violet Irene Brown, her sisters Violet, Mavis and Audrey and her brothers Clyde and baby McKenzie. Leaving to mourn her five children Kenneth (Leah), Dr. Louis (Suzanne), Anna (Dr. Al Felix), John (Katie) and David (Lisa), her nine grandchildren Maria, Patrick, Christopher, Andrew, Michelle, Emily, Rosemary, Keith and Benjamin, her two great-grandchildren Patrick Owen and Charlotte Eleanor. Also leaving to mourn her brother-in-law Dr. Robert Lawton (Josephine) and her sister-in-law Anna Lawton and her large extended family and close friends. After raising five children, Mom went back to work helping Dad run his busy medical practice. She loved her work and she loved Dad's patients even more. She stayed in contact with many of them long after they both retired. Mom loved laughter, music and entertaining her family and friends and was never happier than when cooking up a five-course sit-down dinner for two dozen people, a feat she pulled off repeatedly and with aplomb. Mom often said that in another lifetime she could easily be a chef or restaurateur. Above all, Mom loved her family. She taught us all the Golden Rule. In showing us the meaning of unconditional love, she led by example. Special thanks are due to Dr. Robert Woodland for his enduring kindness and care for both Mom and Dad and other members of our family over the decades. Thanks also to Dr. Patrick O'Shea and the caring and compassionate staff of Kenny's Pond Retirement Residence. Visitation at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, Friday, December 13 from 2 to 4 PM and from 7 to 9 PM. Funeral service will be held at St. Pius X Church on Saturday, December 14 at 9:30 AM. Flowers gratefully accepted. However a donation in Mom's memory to The Gathering Place in lieu of flowers would best commemorate her generous, loving spirit. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.carnells.com
