G. Bruce Woodland

G. Bruce Woodland
WOODLAND G. Bruce Passed peacefully away on February 13th, 2020, in the presence of his loving family, G. Bruce Woodland (Veteran WW2, RCAF, and the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Reserves (Capt., ret’d)), husband of 68 years to Edith (Skinner). He was the son of Majors Charles and Sarah Woodland, father to Bruce (deceased, 1996) and Renee (deceased, 2012; Geoff), Robert (Heather), Gordon (Bonnie), and Karen; brother to Wilmore (Maria) (both deceased), Gordon (deceased) and his wife Lucy, Rhoda (his adoring sister) and her husband Stan Reid (deceased), Alma (deceased), Cora (deceased) and Renee (deceased); loving grandfather to Matthew (Karen), Meghan (Ian), Andrew (Janine), Greg (Katie), Julie, Mark (Melanie), Emily (Justin), Tim and Matthew; great-grandfather of Eric, Lauren, Luke, Clara, Lucy and Henry along with multitudinous, valued, nephews, nieces and friends (and they know who they are!). He was one of the proud remaining few of the ‘great’ generation who loved Newfoundland and the Town of Greenspond. He was a great story teller and there was lots of laughter and fun wherever he went. He was compassionate, kind and able to pass on seamlessly the great lessons and wisdom of life. He loved and valued, with no reservation, all within his sphere of life and always said that life is an onion and layer by layer we are peeled until the centre remains. We want to acknowledge that his life has many layers still remaining and although in a different form, he remains with us, forever in our hearts. What he “was” will be passed down to generations to come. We are so grateful to the people important to Dad’s care in his final months, especially Mom, Karen and Kristy, who tended to his every need at home (we don’t know how you did it!); to Dr. Pat O’Shea, for his ‘above and beyond’ care and friendship over the years and to Petrina and Vivian, his Community Health nurses. You are all our heroes, and will be remembered always. He wanted to pass on a special ‘thank you’ to the ‘History Group’. They all know how important they were to him. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Dad’s wishes, a celebration of his life will occur in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation in his memory.
