Gerald “Gerry” Lewis Gray

Gray, Gerald “Gerry” Lewis, age 84, of Dartmouth, formerly of Gander, NL, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2019, surrounded by family, in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in St. John’s, NL, he was a son of the late Dorcas and Marshal Gray. Gerry had an extensive career working in telecommunications in many parts of Newfoundland. After retiring, he used his leadership skills in his role as executive director of the Chamber of Commerce of Gander for 11 years. Gerry was passionate about volunteering. He was actively involved with the Masons, Shriners, and the Lion’s Club. His dedication to community service was honoured when he received a Citizen of the Year Award for the Town of Gander. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking, trout fishing, and canoeing which included cook-ups and a toddy with his best friends. Some of his proudest moments were summer vacations spent with his grandchildren, Matt and Ally, teaching them to canoe and ride their bikes. Gerry was a dedicated family man. His favourite times were when the family gathered around the dining room table, country music playing in the background, enjoying a good steak and a cold beer. Gerry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barb (Hann); daughter, Donna; son Robert (Renée); grandchildren Matthew and Ally; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Clifford (Norma). Cremation has taken place. The memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday April, 27th in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, with a reception to follow. Interment to take place in Newfoundland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children-Canada.
