Leaving to mourn with cherished memories, his wife of 54 years, Geraldine (nee Howlett); daughters: Bonnie (David Payne), Summerside, PEI; Jackie (Paul Connolly), Barrie, Ontario; Charlene (Donnie Carew), Mount Pearl; Sons: Paul (Susan), Edmonton, Alberta; Barry (Joanna) St. John’s; Darren (Jackie), Goulds; Grandchildren: Jessica Carew (Paul), Caitlyn Oakley, Kyle Payne, Brayden Kelly, Liam & Evan Kelly, Vincent Picco (Maribeth); Brother: Don; Sisters: Phyllis, Mercedes, and Erma; brother-in-law Derm (Annette) Howlett; extended family and his very close friends and neighbours: Ray Dinn (Ann-deceased). Born and raised in St. John’s, Gerry lived all of his married life with his family in the Goulds. A former student of Holy Cross school, he was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt with his life-long boyhood friends, Pat Dunphy and Val McGrath. Gerry worked for the Newfoundland Telephone Company for more than 36 years as a Linesman, mostly working in the Bay Roberts area, before finishing his career working at the Repair Shop in Donovan’s Industrial Park. He was a true gentleman. He would always be seen with a warm smile on his face. He lived his life with compassion and love shared by family and friends. Forever willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, he will always be remembered for his kind heart and beautiful soul. A special thank you to the doctors/nurses of the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre who took great care of dad during his final days. Also, to Dr. Hillman, for her continued support to our family during dad’s illness. At the family’s request, there will be no visiting hours. Funeral service will be held at St. Kevin’s Roman Catholic Church, Goulds, NL on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Kevin’s Cemetery. Everyone is welcomed to drop in at the family home following dad’s service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society.
