Ivy Stella Penney

Ivy Stella Penney
PENNEY Ivy Stella Passed peacefully away on February 13, 2020 at Pleasantview Towers, Ivy Stella Penney aged 81 years. Ivy leaves to mourn her loving children Darrin (Kay) and Susan (Paul) as well as two grandchildren April and Matthew. Ivy joins, in heaven, her loving husband and best friend Fred, her beloved sister Marie (Ken), brother Harold and parents Nathaniel and Effie Kinden. She also leaves to mourn sisters Marilyn (Melvin), Judy (David) and brothers Eric (Hazel) and Howard (Shirley) and special sisters-in-law Jessie (Sturdee) and Francis and brother-in-law Cyril (Bernice), as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews. Ivy grew up on Indian Islands in Notre Dame Bay and throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s, kept many fond memories of this special place. In her teenage years she came to St. John’s to work in Government House with her cousin Stella and eventual life-long friend Rose. Fred was not too far behind, leaving Indian Islands as well to chase Ivy and eventually convince her to marry him. They settled into Suvla Street which was home for the next 50 years. Ivy became close friends with the neighborhood girls Maisie, Sheila and Susie and many a cup of tea, game of cards and meals were had with them and their husbands. We are sad to see Mom go but know that Dad has been patiently waiting for many years for her to come join him again. We would like to thank the staff and students in Pleasantview Towers 2NE and Hillcrest Estates who became Ivy's extended family over the past 5 years. Please join us in celebrating Ivy’s life at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Saturday February 15 from 2-4 p.m. and Sunday February 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at St. Thomas’ Anglican church on Monday February 17 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flower’s donations in Ivy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NL.
