Joan King — Petherton

Passed peacefully away on Tuesday morning, July 17th in the South Petherton Community Hospital Somerset, U.K after a brief but aggressive battle with brain cancer. Joan was predeceased by her husband Ralston (Ross) King in 2007. Leaving behind to celebrate her life are her sister, Betty and brothers John (Wendy), Alan (Cindy) and Richard along with her sons Phillip (Kristina), James (Andrea) and Charles (Andrea) and grandchildren Bronwyn and Simon along with numerous nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends made over the many years. Following her youthful years in Kempston, Befordshire UK she spent an adventurous few years in Labrador before settling in Newfoundland with Ross. Joan spent much of her 50+ years in Newfoundland volunteering for groups such as the Cancer Society, in many roles for which she was awarded the Confederation of Canada and Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medals, the local Library board and she was involved in many groups such as the Woman's Institute. As would be her wish, in lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society (http://www.cancer.ca/en/?region=nl) would be appreciated. A funeral will be held at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, South Chard on August 9th at 12:00 noon.
