Kevin Michael Reid

Kevin Michael Reid
REID Kevin Michael Passed peacefully on May 21, 2020, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 16, 1956, resided in Conception Bay South, NL (formerly of Bell Island). Kevin is predeceased by his mother and father, John and Anne (Myler) Reid, his parents-in-law, Richard and Ida (Hedd) Dalton and other deceased members of the Reid, Myler and Dalton families. He leaves to mourn with deep sadness and a heavy heart, his wife, Joan, his precious daughter, Terri (Corey Dawe) and his loving son, Stephen. His granddaughter, Rachel Ida Dawe, may be too young to understand her impact but she was a bright spot and source of strength throughout her Poppy's illness. Kev will be dearly missed by his siblings, Janet, John (Sandra) and Bob (Pam) Reid, his sisters-in-law Glenys Pendergast (John), Diane Stoyles (Bob), Debbie Cahill (John), Jean Dalton (Butch), Hazel and Alphonsine Dalton. The feeling extends to his aunts, Margaret Mansfield, Cecilia Blackmore and uncles Don Peddle and Mike Reid (Jean). His many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and longtime friends will never forget him. Above all else Kevin was a wonderful husband and father. His strong work ethic and sacrifice were always on full display for a better present and future life for those he loved. He and Joan recently celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary, a testament to their love and dedication. Spending time and sharing successes with his children made him beam with pride. Those achievements would not have been possible without his encouragement and guidance. He was a quiet man for the most part but could make you laugh with his dry sense of humour. Material wealth was not a priority for Kev. He was content as long as he could hang out in the garage and share a preferred beverage with family, friends and neighbours. Our life together has meant so much having him in it. We will cherish the memories forever. He also leaves a family of friends in his professional life. Kevin worked as a journeyman mechanic for 30 years at Bill Matthews Volkswagen and Audi. He rarely took a sick day and was well respected by his employer and colleagues. Kevin worked for months with his illness before being diagnosed. Although his prognosis was never optimistic, he still spoke about going back someday to retire on his own terms. That's just the kind of man he was. The Reid family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Cancer Clinic and 4NA for your professional care. Cremation has taken place and funeral arrangements will take place on Bell Island on Monday, May 25, 2020. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pendergast Funeral Home. Donations in Kevin's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
