Lawrence (Larry) Maxwell NEWHOOK

Lawrence (Larry) Maxwell Newhook
NEWHOOK Lawrence (Larry) Maxwell Passed away on October 19, 2020, two days prior to his 72nd birthday. A native of Mount Pearl, Larry attended Memorial University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1974. A charter member of Epsilon Sigma Nu (ESN), the engineering fraternity at MUN, he remained an active member throughout his life. He worked for a number of years in the public and private sectors of the province. A passionate automobile lover since childhood, “Lar” began selling cars later in life, opening his beloved Kenmount Auto in the mid 1980s. His eclectic interests could best be appreciated by looking at his bookshelves. Music, art, philosophy, politics, history - many are the subjects that piqued his curiosity and found debate well into the night over a glass of his favorite scotch in front of a crackling fire. Larry’s greatest commitment was to his family. Barbecues, Sunday dinners, motorhome outings, he was often the first to arrive and the last to leave. As a brother, he turned his engineering hand at renovation projects for one and all. When relatives and friends arrived from away, he opened his home with joy and always provided a car. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Ronald (Carolyn), Calvin (Lori), Chris (Lori), David (Caroline), and his sister Angela (Kevin). He will also be fondly missed and cherished by the nieces and nephews he adored, Heather (Jeff), Scott, Alice (Andrew), Joshua, Caitie, Julia, Louise, James, Gracie, Sarah, Griffin, Paul, Sam and Charles. Larry is predeceased by his mother Dorothy, father Hubert and sister Susan. A private family memorial service will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home on, Sunday, October 25, 2020.
