Lillian Norah Grace (Née Whiteway) Skanes Green

SKANES GREEN Lillian Norah Grace (née Whiteway) January 9, 1932 – February 7, 2020 With broken hearts, we announce that Lillian Norah Grace Skanes Green (née Whiteway) died peacefully in the home of her daughter in St. John’s on Friday, February 7, 2020. Grace brought joy, unconditional love and meaning to the lives of her children Deborah (David Craig), Alison (James Anstey), Victoria (Trevor Arbuckle), Robert (Brenda) and Heather (Gordon Penny) as well as many nieces and nephews. Grace was grandmother to eleven: Robyn (Alfred Sanford), Erin (Trevor Lewis), Laura (Luke Kroeker), Kathryn (Michael Simone), Kyle, Jonathan (Lisa), Robert, Ian (Katrina), Jenny (Michael Cotter), Stefanie (Mark Noseworthy), and Ronnie (Britany) and a great-grandmother to ten: Logan, Georgia, Jaxon, Brody, Jake, Felicity, Elliot, Judah, Kate and Nora. She is survived by her dearly loved brother Randolph (Jean, deceased), brothers-in-law Gerald (Maude, deceased), and Graham (Verna). She is preceded in death by her first husband Walter Gordon Skanes and her second husband Frank Green. Grace Whiteway was born on January 9, 1932 in Bishop’s Falls to Lillian and Josiah Whiteway. Grace worked in the lady’s department in the family business and volunteered as an organist at St. Andrews Anglican Church for 40 years before moving to St. John’s in 2013. Highly active in her youth, she enjoyed skiing, skating, biking, swimming, and walking and passed on traditions in sewing and baking. She embodied and taught warmth, generosity, and putting others’ needs ahead of her own. Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Teresa’s Church in St. John’s with a reception to follow immediately afterwards at her daughter Deborah’s home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Grace’s life. No flowers by request. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Seniors Resource Centre, 243 Topsail Rd., St. John’s, NL A1E 0G5.
