Linda Nap

NAP Linda On a beautiful sunny Monday, August 12, 2019, we said good bye to our Mom. She was comfortable and very peacefully and quietly slipped away at Grand View Manor in Berwick NS. Despite a journey with Alzheimer’s, she was happy and enjoying her life, especially her desserts, right up to a week ago. She was wonderfully adventurous, strong, independent and smart. At 94 years of age, Mom was the last of her generation in her immediate family. She was born in Hengelo, Holland on June 8, 1925 to Johannes Ravestein and Johanna Lakeman Ravestein. As a teenager she lived through the occupation of World War II and after the war years she went on to post secondary school where she studied to become an agricultural lab technician – quite a feat in those days! She worked in several labs in Holland before she married our father, Franciscus (died June 24, 2011) and emigrated to Newfoundland in July of 1954 where they grew the Holland Nurseries and raised three daughters. Mom’s sense of adventure never left her and in her “golden years” she travelled extensively with her sister, Else – cycling a volcanic mountain in Hawaii, touring Turkey, making it to the Arctic Circle, visiting a foster child in the hills of Indonesia and crossing the Bridge on the River Kwai – to name but a few. She leaves behind with wonderful memories, her daughters: Sylvia (Tony Curtis), Louise (Bob Morrin) & Colette, grandchildren – Nicholas Dunn, Erica Chapman (Peter), Jocelyn Dunn (Grant Hickey), Kathleen Groff (Drew), Deanna Jewells (Mark) and Alyssa Davison (Cody) and great grandchildren – Matthew Dunn, Adeline & Baby Jewells, and Emma Groff. Special mention to all of her fur grandbabies as she so loved animals. There will be a memorial service at St. David’s Presbyterian Church, St. John’s NL later in the fall. Memorial contributions can be made to Stella’s Circle Foundation, Beagle Paws or St. David’s Auxiliary of AMS.
