Margaret Walsh
WALSH Margaret Maude June 17, 1936 - Feb 18, 2020 Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Margaret, dearly beloved wife and mother. On Tuesday morning, February 18th, in the presence of her loving family, Margaret Maude Walsh (nee Wickham), age 83 years, passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Centre. Margaret was first and foremost a loving mother, grandmother and devoted wife. She would sing the praises of her children to all who would listen – they were her greatest achievement. Although she had a large family, Margaret’s table was always open to one more and she welcomed anyone to join at anytime. Her sociable, loving and sweet demeanor and her great sense of humour resulted in a vast number of friends of all ages who considered her a motherly figure, a sister, a friend, and a confidante, not to mention a magnificent card player. Margaret loved family traditions and became famous for her old fashioned Newfoundland fudge at Christmas time. She believed in celebrating every milestone big or small, whether a birthday or a distinguished award. She had a lovely way of making those around her feel unique and special. She was a beautiful person who accepted everyone for who they were. In the family-owned business, Excel Pharmacy in Churchill Square, Margaret was the smiling face customers first encountered when they walked through the door. Her sweet disposition and charm made a huge impact. It was she who won over customers day after day. Music was a great part of Margaret's life too. She loved Newfoundland and Irish music and could be seen at many local performances. One of her daily rituals was to feed the birds that gathered in her back garden. Margaret loved birds and now has wings of her own, closely watching over all those she loved so dearly. Predeceased by her parents, Margaret and John Wickham and her brother, John. Leaving behind to both mourn her passing and to celebrate her life are her loving husband of sixty four years, Basil; her children, Beverly Tucker (Kyle), Brenda Bursey (Bob), Margaret Walsh (John), Basil Brian Walsh, Barbara Chalker (Chris), Bernice Batten (Tony), and Robyn Knott (Tom); sixteen grandchildren, Krista, Adele, Victoria, Scott, Christopher, Stevie, Maggie, Ben, Nikki, Elizabeth, Ryan, James, Alexandria, Sam, Jacob, and Angela, and their partners and spouses; five great grandchildren, Edward, Emily, Hayden, Max, and Madilyn; her siblings, Leonard (Peggy), Mary, Carol Ann, Eileen, Frances (David), Lorraine (Gordon), Louise (Spencer), and Kevin; brothers-in-law, Des and Victor Walsh. Also many beloved nieces and nephews and a large circle of special friends. Thanks to the staff at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital and a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Unit, Leonard A. Miller Centre. Your kindness and care was very much appreciated and made an impact on all of us. The family will receive visitors at Carnell's Funeral Home at 329 Freshwater Road on February 20th from 7 pm to 9 pm, and February 21st from 11 am to 2 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm. Service will be held from The Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, February 22nd at 10 am. Cremation will follow the service. Internment will take place at a later date. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to Dollar-A-Day Foundation or Daffodil Place. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com
