Marie Catherine Maher (nee Whitty )                                                                                     

October 12, 1914 – January 10, 2020

Born in Torbay Newfoundland. Registered Nurse, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Gardener, Artist, Author, Singer, Baker and Square Dancer - a life well lived. Marie passed away at Saint Patrick’s Mercy Home in St. John’s on January 10, 2020.  She leaves behind loving daughters: Noreen in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Marilyn Barfoot (Joe Kral) in Houston, Texas, and devoted son John (Marti) in Calgary, Alberta. She is remembered fondly by her grandchildren: Douglas, Sharon (Greg Bonner), and David (Lisa) Maher all in Calgary, Aaron (Jennifer) Barfoot   in New York, and Michael (Claudia) Barfoot in Colorado, and her great grandchildren:  John F. Maher and Adam Maher in Alberta, Logan and Noelle Barfoot in New York, and Milo and Nomi Barfoot in Colorado. Marie was predeceased by her devoted husband Francis J. Maher, her mother and father John and Mary Whitty, her sisters Madeline and Ellen, and brother Francis Whitty.  She is survived by her brother Stan Whitty (Barbara).  She also had warm feelings for all of her many nieces and nephews especially Peggy and Clarence Stone, Maureen and Martin Clooney, Glen and Nicki Whitty and grandniece Sarah Whitty who shared many memorable, happy times together with mother Marie had many relatives and friends in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, and the United States. The family would like to thank all her great neighbours on Larch Place especially Dr. Bob Miller and Dr. Cheri Bethune, and friends who frequently visited her at Tiffany Village and St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, the nursing staff at both homes, the pastors Father Bolton and Father Earle at St. Pius Tenth. An announcement will be forthcoming regarding a celebration of her life.
