Mary Cecilia Spurrell (nee Kelly)

After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, Cecilia, age 84, passed away at Glenbrook Lodge on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Elizabeth Kelly of Gambo, NL. Predeceased by her husband Douglas (2010) and brothers Joe, Cyril, and Bill. She will be missed and forever loved by her children Ed (Britta) Victoria, BC, Doug (Michelle) St. John’s NL, Glen (Karen) Quispamsis, NB and Kim CBS, NL, 16 grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Cecilia is also survived by her siblings Andy, Ed (Pauline), Alice, Gus (Mary), Steve (Pat), Dick (Pat), Ron (Bonita) and Roy (Nora). Cecilia enjoyed many days in the company of Roy and Nora who gave much of their time to make her days at Glenbrook pleasant. A special thank you to Caroline Whelan, who has been a caregiver, companion and close family friend for the past 4 years. Cecilia was a long-time employee of the Grace General Hospital. She enjoyed many years of travel and dancing with her husband of 52 years, Douglas. She was a loving, kind, generous mother and friend to whom family meant everything. Cecilia’s smile will be missed by the residents and staff at Glenbrook Lodge who became her extended family over the past 8 years. Their care and compassion were a great source of comfort and support for Cecilia and her family. Visitation will be at Caul’s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road on January 10th from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Caul’s Funeral Home at 11a.m. on Friday, January 11th, 2019. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery on Topsail Road. Flowers are gratefully accepted, or a donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
