PARSONS-MORRIS Mary born February 3, 1920 Died on October 9, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Mercy Home, Mary Parsons-Morris (nee Downey) beloved great grandmother, grandmother, mother, aunt, cousin, friend and the last of the Hamilton Ave. Downey clan. Predeceased by her first husband, Herbert R Parsons, (1973) and second husband, Bernard (John) Morris, (2012) grandson, Neil Adrian Hudson in 2016 and son James Parsons in 2018. Parents MaryAnn and Patrick Downey, and siblings William Downey, Gertrude Walsh, Margaret Mahoney, Anita Perran, Isabel Ashley, Kay O’Leary and Rose Perran. Leaving to mourn her passing are daughters Barbara (Stacy) MacLeod (Allan, deceased) (PEI), Joan Saulnier (Paul) (PEI), Judy English (Bob) (St. John’s), Paula Hudson (Diane), Rhode Island, USA and daughter-in-law Linda Parsons (Markham Ont.), Grandchildren, Brett Stacy, Gena (Riggs) Stacy, Lynn Saulnier, Michelle Saulnier, Robbie and Blair English, Michael and Paul Parsons. Great grandchildren, Owen Hudson, Ben and Nick Stacy, Sydney and Aidan Riggs, Dominic and Josh Tardif, Liam English, Eva and Ashton English, William and Eleanor Parsons, and step daughter Heather Hennebury. as well as many nieces and nephews. An avid reader, Mom was also an avid gambler who loved bingo and cards. She spent her lifetime playing auction, 45’s rumolli, cribbage and poker with her siblings, cousins, children and grandchildren. Mom worked over three decades in the grocery business, beginning her career with Ayres Supermarket which was later sold to Dominion. In 1964 she won the national Checker of the Year and went on to compete in Chicago. A longtime member of the Elks Club, Mom was a proud Lady of the Royal PurpleOne of Mom’s life goals was to live to be one hundred and get a letter from the queen. With that goal achieved Mom decided it was time to leave. She will be missed by many, especially by her favorite nieces, Barbara Ashley, Dianne O’Leary, and Flo Evans and husband Justin Conway. Our brother, Jim, always said Mom would give her last crust of bread to someone in need. She was a wonderful example for us all. A special thanks to the staff of St. Patrick's Mercy Home, 1st floor north, for the wonderful care of Mom. Visitation will take place on Monday, October 12th, 2020 from 2pm-6pm from Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue and a service of celebration will take place at a future date.
