GREENE Maureen Passed peacefully away at Pleasantview Towers on Saturday, January 25th, Maureen Healey Greene, 1928-2020. Predeceased by her parents, Nora Healey Keegan and Leo Healey; sisters: Sheila Gushue (Alex) and Patricia Gamberg (Gerard); brothers: Gerald Healey and Kevin Healey; niece Anne Colleen Halliday; nephew Fred Gamberg and brothers-in-law Alexander Gushue and Gerard Gamberg. Leaving to mourn her four children: Noreen Greene Fraize (Thomas Fraize Q.C.), Richard Greene (Tanya Berezuk), Sheila Greene Q.C. (John Fahey) and Alanna Greene (John Hickey); her 8 grandchildren: Sarah Greene (Simon Howe), Lara Fraize-Burry (Michael Burry), Kalli Fraize (Derrick Warr), Samuel Greene (Katie Dunlop), Alanna Fraize, Isabella Fahey (Luke Taylor), Robert Fahey and Anna Winter; great grandchildren: Thomas and Lewis Howe and Scarlett Burry; Sister and friend Rosemary Keegan; cousin and life long friend Eileen Gronich; as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, grand nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Maureen was born in St. Georges, NL and while a child, lived in many parts of Newfoundland. As a visual artist, her pictures are part of the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Permanent Collection and hang in many public buildings and private collections throughout the country. A recipient of the gold medal for visual art in the Newfoundland Arts and Letters competition, Maureen had exhibitions of her art, including sold out shows in Ontario and elsewhere. Maureen was a proud student of St. Bride’s College, Littledale and for many years taught in schools around the province. As well, Maureen was a Social Worker and acting Director of the Department of Social Services for the west coast of Newfoundland. A lover of poetry and bridge, Maureen was a woman of faith who enjoyed books, fashion and politics and was known for her keen intellect, wit and spectacular sense of humour. Special thanks to the staff of Escasoni and Pleasantview Towers for their kind and loving care of our mother and in particular, their loving care in her last days. Maureen will be resting at Carnell’s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Tuesday January 28 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00. Funeral will be from St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday January 29 at 11:00 am. Flowers are gratefully accepted.
