CAREW Nicholas It is with great pain and sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. Nick passed on November 12, 2019 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 89 surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents John and Mercedes (Seward) Carew and brother John. Leaving to mourn are his beloved wife Ruth (nee O’Neil); son Nick (Janet); daughter Anne Marie (Yuri); grandchildren: Robbie (Carolyn), Kelly, Emma and Jenny (Pat); and great- grandchildren: Ryan, Hunter and Aaron. Also leaving behind brothers: Joe (Gertrude – deceased), Danny (Joan – deceased) and Pat (Jean); sisters: Anne Carew, Marina Aita (Angelo), Sheila Carew and Eleanor Furlong (Ed -deceased); sister-in-law Rita Walsh (Ed - deceased); as well as a number of beloved nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Nick was a proud Korean War Veteran (RCEME Corps) and a long-standing member Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56. He was a steadfast and humble man, respectful and deeply respected by all. The last eight years of his life found him battling the biggest war of his life as his memory was stolen from him, yet he remained a gentle and kind soul. A special thank you to his angels who watched over him each day: Christine, Yvonne and Amanda. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 2 – 4 p.m and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 9:30 a.m from Mary Queen of Peace, Torbay Road. Cremation and a private inurnment will follow at a later date. Donations in Nick’s memory can be made to any charitable cause and would be appreciated.
