Olive Meta Nee Feltham Button

BUTTON Olive Meta nee Feltham Passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre in St. John’s 10 days shy of her 89th birthday. Born on Silver Fox Island, Olive later lived in Wareham, Holyrood, and St. John’s where she raised her family and made many dear friends. Olive worked hard all her life, as a mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a ship’s cook and a seamstress. She was a true artist in the mediums of fabric, thread and wool, possessing an incredible talent recognized by everyone but herself. We will always cherish the quilts, dresses, sweaters, socks, hats, scarves, blankets and toys her hands crafted with such care and love. Her greatest gift of all was her gentle warmth and kindness, which live on in the hearts of those she has left behind. She leaves to mourn her daughter Linda (Stanley G.), and her sons Lloyd (Shirley), Rex (Deborah), and Gordie (Karen); her brother Lew (Debbie) and sisters Violet and Drucilla; her grandchildren Julia Ann (Will), Sarah (Bryn), Bronwen (Rob), Laura (Travis), Myra (Matt), Andrew, Katherine (Simon), David (Michaela), and Heather (Zach); and her great-grandchildren Haidyn, River, Sylvia, Owen, Caroline, Tosh and Finn. Joining them in love and remembrance are a long and beloved list of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends around the world. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Muriel Feltham, her husband Jacob Button, her daughter Betty (Weldon) and baby son Andy, her sisters Donna and Della and her brother Abel. We pray that there are fields of bakeapples for her to pick with them in heaven. The family would like to recognize the staff at Cambridge Estates, St. John’s, who went above and beyond with care and compassion for Olive. We would also like to thank the staff of the palliative care unit at the Miller Centre who ensured her final hours were ones of peace and comfort. Olive’s endless capacity for love and kindness was well-known by anyone who was lucky enough to have called her family or friend. She made the world a better place for being in it. She will be dearly missed, and forever loved. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions there will be no visitation. A private family service will take place. For those who wish to attend virtually, the service will be live-streamed.
