HOLDEN Patrick Michael Holden Feb. 24, 1947 – Jan. 19, 2020 Passed peacefully away at the Miller Center after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer, Paddy Holden, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend, Newfoundland outdoorsman, all-Newfoundland softball pitcher, Newfoundland Land Surveyor, amateur war historian, jack-of-all-trades. Pre-deceased by his parents Michael and Bridget (nee Foley), his mother-in-law Marg Browne (nee Stanley), his sister Janet Holden, his sister-in-law Patricia Philpott, his brother-in-law John Browne. Leaving to mourn with broken hearts are his loving wife of 49 years Barbara, his 4 children: Michael (Barbara), Krista (Mark) Mulrooney, Kelly (Tyson), Patrick (Lisa) and his 8 grandchildren whom he adored: Eve & Dane Mulrooney, Caden Pottle and Jase Woolridge, Jake and Luke Holden, Patrick and Shae Holden; sister Bernice (Nelson) Vere-Holloway, sister Brenda Kavanagh (Wayne), sister-in-law Darlene Mulcahy, brother-in-law Brian Philpott (Cynthia), sister-in-law Patsy Browne, sister-in-law Peggy (Doug) Snow, brother-in-law Ricky Browne, sister-in-law Susan (Paul) Kelly, nieces and nephews: Paul Kavanagh, Nancy Stanley (Bryce), Dennis Vere-Holloway, Scott Vere-Holloway, Jane Kieley (Chris), Gail Walsh (Jeff), Barry Philpott (Barb), Dave Philpott (Angie), Johnny Browne, Steve Browne (Dena), Chris Browne (Tina), Leslie Pittman (Joe), Jeremy Snow (Lori-Ann), Adam Snow (Carolyn), Renee Paul (Rod), Melissa Dalton (Brian) and all his Holden and Foley cousins. Paddy had an amazing circle of friends – from Southside and Kilbride, Softball and Hockey, Horsechops, and from all over the world including Switzerland, Germany, Holland. Paddy will be missed by very special friends: Kenny and Mary Crane, Reg and Lucy Stoyles and Mike and Marie Stoyles and the extended Stoyles Clan, Don and Jenny Nolan, Alec Ryan, Billy Lacey, Todd Barrett, Paul Healy, Ken Masters, Bobby and Sammy Holden, and his special Swiss-Italian ‘like a son to me’ Maurizio Modica. Cremation has taken place. A note of extreme gratitude to his family doctor Dr. Christine Bassler, Dr. Stewart Rorke at the cancer center and all the doctors and staff at the Miller Center. Dad received exceptional care in the last 2 years of his sickness. Paddy will be remembered for his amazing storytelling, his excellent sense of humour, his wisdom and guidance, his devotion to his family and friends, his direct and no-nonsense nature. Everyone who spent time with dad went away with a smile and a story! He lives on in all the great memories we have with him. We will celebrate his storied life with friends and family at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Saturday, January 25 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday, January 26 from 12 noon – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at Corpus Christi Church, Waterford Bridge Road, on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center in his name. Here’s to Paddy Holden, God love him!
