SKANES Ralph Ronald July 08, 1942 - Nov. 15, 2019 Passed peacefully away Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Health Science Centre. Ralph will be reunited with his loving wife Bernice (nee Everard) who passed away in October 2015. Ralph will also join his favourite four-legged companion Nick, who passed away while he was in hospital. Predeceased by parents Ralph & Gertrude Skanes, sisters Edna, Jean (Boone) & Beryl (Barker), & brother Harris. Left with many happy & loving memories are children Susan (David Dodge), Mark & Melissa (Stephen Power); cherished grandchildren Michael, Amy & Anna Dodge; Devin, Tyler & Kyle Skanes; Sydney & Tori Power. Also survived by sisters Shirley (Hemmens), & Bernice (Costello) as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Ralph also leaves a tight circle of friends & neighbours. We are especially grateful to Pat McGrath, Phil Mackey & family, Lenora Stanford, and next door neighbours Bob & Shirl for their friendship and support. Dad enjoyed reminiscing about Bell Island, his days of Guards hockey, and especially talking about his favourite coach Howie Meeker. He deeply adored his grandchildren, and loved hearing about their accomplishments and daily antics. Dad thoroughly enjoyed a good meal & company. We are especially grateful to the Cardiology, Cancer Clinic, Interventional Radiology teams and family physician Dr. David Hart for their care of Dad over the last few years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation from Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Monday from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Mass to take place from Corpus Christi Church with a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA. Dad benefited from many good deeds, including baked goods and meals. In his memory, we ask that you pay forward a good deed to a deserving person. “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart. I’ll stay there forever.”
