Ronald Joseph Reardon

Ronald Joseph Reardon

REARDON Ronald Joseph "THE EAGLE HAS LANDED" It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Father, Grandfather (Poppy), Great- Grandfather, Uncle and Cousin, Ronald Joseph Reardon, age 93 years. After a brief, but courageous battle with melanoma cancer, Dad passed away at home surrounded by his family’s love and care. Ron is predeceased by his loving wife, Anna, (2010); his son, Joseph, (1952), Brothers; Sisters and relatives of the Reardon family and the in-laws of the Madden family. Ron, son of Albert and Theresa (Penton) Reardon, grew up in Sandy Cove, Fogo Island. He left Fogo in his late teens to work at the American Base in Stephenville, where he met the love of his life, Anna, while she was teaching in Stephenville Crossing. After they married in 1950, they moved to St. John's to continue work and begin a family. Dad was an Engineering Technician with Avalon Telephone Co./Bell Aliant, assisting in the building of the telephone network across the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since his retirement in 1991, Dad busied himself at his cabin and at home, cooking meals, planting crops, fishing, snaring rabbits and hunting. He enjoyed his volunteer years at St. Patrick's Mercy Home (2010 - June, 2019) and was a life member of the Bell Aliant Pioneers. He had a wonderful life surrounded by his family and friends. Dad, (Poppy), had a “powerful presence in our lives and left an indelible mark on each and every one of us”. He was known to take on any task, big or small, with great research and debate, and advice was always ‘highlighted’ and given to any member of our family. “When Poppy is greeted at the Pearly Gates and shakes The hand of God We hope God is ready for it!!” Now reunited with his loving wife, Anna, he leaves to mourn his children: Noreen (David Etheridge) and her children: Gillian (John Bennett, John and Noah), David (Shelly Crickard, Jacob), Catherine, Tara (Adam Hearn) and their father John Grace; Teresa (Edward Donovan) and their children: Nicola (Ella), Lisa (Tom Harris, Thomas and Emma), Denise (Ben and Jack McGuire); Korona (William Brophy) and their children: Anna, Laura (Robert Hoyles) and Peter (Lesley (Brace), Cohen and Myles); Rhonda (Randy Ivany) and their children: Melissa (Joseph Abadi, Lilianna and Leo), Mark (Ashley Dwyer); Terry (Bernice (Molloy), Liam and Alanna). He also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews and cousins of the Reardon, Madden, Puddister, Foley, and Clarke families. The family is forever grateful for Dad's immense care with Eastern Health. Thank you to the nurses and doctors who cared for him with love and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Sheilagh McGrath, his family doctor, whom he loved and deeply respected; Dr. Christopher Cox, Dr. Kathy Thoms, Dr. Bruce Doulton, Dr. Dawn Armstrong and Community Health nurses, Jeannie Reddy and Sharon Nurse for their attention and caring ways towards Dad in his final days. Ron is waking at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 25, from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Peter's Parish Church, Mt. Pearl, Monday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to St. Peter's Church - St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mt. Pearl; Alzheimer's Society; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; or Arthritis Society. "Your arms may grow weary, Your shoes will wear thin, Come with Me into the fields".
