Roy Edward Stockley

Roy Edward Stockley
STOCKLEY Roy Edward It is with great sadness we tell the world that Roy Edward Stockley left us on December 6, 2019. Born in 1937, Roy was raised in Notre Dame Bay; where he found a passion for education. He journeyed from student to teacher in the same one-room school. In university and then again at teachers’ residence in Gander, he heard heels clicking outside the classroom and looked outside to meet the love of his life, Evelyn. Their enduring marriage started in 1964. A short while later arrived their eldest son Rod, with whom he shared a love of good company, good food, good drink, and good times. Rod Married Colleen Lewis and they brought grandchildren to Roy’s life, in their three daughters, Jennifer her fiancé Tiffany Leonard (aka Stephanie), Amanda, and Nicole. Nicole married Shannon Sullivan, and together they promoted Roy to a Great Grandfather, when their daughter Aurora was born. Pamela the next child, and frequent crib partner, introduced him to travel, rollerblading, B&B tree-hugging, and other shenanigans. Her husband Clint Harwood and Roy would plot long Sunday dinners with too many potatoes any time they were together. Roy and Les (next son and only compliant berry picker) grew many things in the garden and despite a lot of time spent fishing, didn’t catch many fish. The time was always more important than the fish. Heather the youngest joined the music in a household that had 3 organs and 2 pianos. She and her husband Paul Biggin also brought Roy grandchildren in hockey stars Emily and Kai. Roy had many passions. Roy’s wine was legendary, and despite a spectacular quantity produced, to our knowledge never included a single grape. He loved cards: bridge and crib being his primary vices. You always had to watch carefully when he added one for the Jack. He took the family on long road trips, finding sunflowers, and taking amazing pictures of the family on the glaciers. With love we send Roy on his last trip and celebrate our memories of him. Roy was predeceased by his sister Marg, brother Pleamon, mother Gertrude, and sister Teresa. Left to mourn are his sisters Joan and Marina. A warm thank you to Dr Grenning, Randy, Donna and Sandra. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service to be held from Barrett’s Chapel on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 2:00pm. Reception to follow at Barrett’s Reception Centre. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
