Thelma Marie Atkinson

Passed peacefully away on December 6th, 2018, Thelma Marie Atkinson in her 104th year. Predeceased by her brother, Donald, and sisters, Gwen and Mary. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her long life, her daughter, Jean Bernath, grandson Jason Bernath, great-grandchildren, Tessa and Creed Bernath; son, Ian Atkinson, daughter-in-law, Donna Kavanagh, and her nieces and their families in the UK and the USA. She will also be missed by her second family at Callingwood Down’s Seniors Complex, the Kavanagh family and her friends from Beta Sigma Phi, as well as special friend, Tina Morgan. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Callingwood Downs who always went out of their way to afford her every comfort especially in the last months. Thelma came to NL from England in 1958, initially settling in Trinity before moving to St. John’s. She worked for the provincial government in the 70’s and 80’s and was active in Beta Sigma Phi and the SPCA. Thelma loved to travel and visited countries all over the world. Gardening was one of her passions. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Sunday, December 9th from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Memorial service on Monday, December 10th, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Caul’s Chapel. Inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to the SPCA.
