Theresa DRAY

Theresa Dray
Tribute to the late Theresa Dray Theresa rejoined her beloved family on September 1, 2020 - her parents James and Margaret Dray and siblings Elizabeth, Michael, Margaret, Mary and Patrick. She was a dearly loved Aunt. We have many great memories of her. She was always so hospitable when visiting her home, whether it be Little Bona, Little Paradise, Dunville, or St. John’s. Memories are plenty from being presented with a lovely bouquet of flowers from her garden to take home or to a simple cup of tea and wonderful stories about the olden days. Although Aunt Theresa lived in many places, she was most proud of being from Little Bona (as were all her siblings). It was the place they loved best of all. Family lore tells of a great childhood there with their industrious fisherman father (a self-taught person of renowned intellect) and homemaker, no less industrious mother. Aunt Theresa’s charity work was well known to us including how she continued the tradition started by her mother of sending hand knitted mitts, socks and scarves to the orphans at Mount Cashel (it had a very different reputation back then). Following her diagnosis and successful treatment for breast cancer many years ago, she knit many items to donate to the cancer centre. She also knit caps for preemie babies and other charities. Aunt Theresa was always there for her siblings when they were raising their young families. She would travel from Little Bona/Paradise to Oderin, St. John’s and Dunville when asked to help when a new child was coming or a sibling was ill. As was recounted, they all owed her a depth of gratitude. Aunt Theresa was the youngest of four sisters and the one that remained to be homemaker for her father and brother when her mother died in 1953. We’re sure her father’s death in 1974 was quite devastating for her. She carried on though and entered the ‘workforce’ making and selling hundreds of quilts and knitted goods. She always maintained her happy disposition throughout and we never ever once heard her complain about her life. She was a treasure and much loved. May she rest in the eternal peace she so justly deserves. Soar with the angels Aunt Theresa.
