Val Careen

CAREEN Val February 18, 1955 - August 21, 2019 With profound sadness the family of Val Careen announces his peaceful passing at the Placentia Health Centre, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. He is predeceased by his parents: Albert and Agnes Careen; brothers: Anthony, Charlie and Austin; sister Mary, niece Sherry; and in-laws: Shelly and Ken. He leaves to mourn his wife Marion; daughters: Mary (Ken) and Shawnisy (Shawn); grandchildren: Brady, Leland, Makayla and Cassidy; sisters: Connie, Donna (Eddie), Lena (Wally), Debbie (Clarence), Deanne (Gerard), Cindy, and Violet; brothers: Tim, Mike, Ken, Millie (Linda), Leo, and Bo; in-laws: Chris, Jim, Jerry (Maxine), Harold (Sharon), Loretta (Robert), Michelle (Chuck), Glenda (Steve), and Jackie (Jim); as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Also leaving to mourn his best friends: Ian and Carolyn Walsh, and Buck and Annie Patterson; as well as his comrades at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 and the Placentia Fire Department, and many close friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Placentia Health Centre, especially Dr. Zhara Shargi for going above and beyond, as well as his sister Connie Careen for being lovingly by his side. Val was a devoted volunteer, dedicating 39 years to the Royal Canadian Legion and 37 years to the Placentia Fire Department. He put everyone before himself, right to his last moments. His presence, support and guidance will be dearly missed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Maher's Funeral Home in Placentia. Visitation to take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial to take place 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24th at Sacred Heart Church, Placentia. Interment to follow at Dermot McGettigan Memorial Cemetery, Southeast Placentia. Donations can be made in memory of Val to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 33 or the Placentia Fire Department.
