Wesley Freeman Bird
BIRD Wesley Freeman Wesley Freeman Bird, resident of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, formerly of Cartwright, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2020 at Labrador Health Center at the age of 71 years old surrounded by his loving family. Wes was born in Cartwright, Labrador and where he grew up in and spent much of his childhood in Grady where his father was a fisherman. Wes worked for Newfoundland & Labrador Hydro for 40 plus years. When he retired, due to boredom, he continued to work for Cahill on the Muskrat Falls project for many years and retired twice more. Like a true Labrador man, he loved to be on the land. Spending his summers in Cartwright to get his salmon and bakeapples was something that he loved and looked forward to every year. Wes loved nothing more than a drink with his buddies and always had a funny story to tell. He was known and loved by everyone. He couldn’t go anywhere in the world without finding someone who knew him. Wes is predeceased by his parents, Willis and Marion Bird. He is survived by his sisters Myra King (George, deceased) and Rita Grinham. Wes was loved by his family, his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Bird and children Trudy (Brad), Darrell (Krista) and Sharon (Nick). Grandchildren Darian, Cole, Kristopher, Shayne, Matthew, Mateja and Dani. He loved his grandchildren more than everything and was so proud to talk about them as much as possible. In keeping with his wishes, Wes was cremated and his life will be celebrated by friends and family. A service will be held at the Anglican Church in Goose Bay on Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 at 2:00 pm. His remains will return home to Cartwright where he will be laid to rest with his beloved parents. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted and donated to a bursary for a Labrador student enrolled in the Power Line Technician (Linesman) program at the College of the North Atlantic.
