Good Roots Gardening and The Pantry Café are two important initiatives of Autism Society NL (ASNL) having positive impacts on adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the general community. ASNL employ three individuals on the spectrum year-round; seasonally, that number increases to as many as 12.
These social enterprises provide real job skills training for participants and make vital links to the workforce; each raises awareness and increases acceptance of ASD in the community; and, each provides revenue for ASNL.
Social enterprise enables job skills to be learned in an onsite workplace and in multiple community workplace sites, for pay. They also facilitate volunteer opportunities at varied settings in the community, build confidence and trust, improve social and communication skills, and enhance employability skills.
Research clearly shows the significant economic impact that ASNL has on the economy of the province. It contributes in more ways than many believe; and it can contribute much more!
ASNL helps get adults into the workforce — one person at a time.
Present funding is not sustaining. But with an increased, multi-year core fund, Autism Society NL can continue to work with its community partners and make a positive, collective impact on our ASD community and province for many years.
