ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — I read with interest Lana Payne’s column “Binder full of Enemies — Part 2” in the Feb. 4 edition of the Saturday Telegram.
For those who didn’t read it, it was a critique of those who (allegedly) shut down debate, kept lists of political enemies, fought to make unions more transparent and, in short “attack those who disagreed with your ideology and decisions.”
Kettle, meet pot.
This is the same union who media are now reporting contributed funds an election observation mission to Venezuela last year, which concluded that their’s was a transparent, orderly and legitimate election, and that Canada could learn a thing or two from that system.
The Venezuelan regime is anything but democratic, anything but tolerant, and a panel of human rights experts last year called for the regime to be referred to the International Court of Justice for alleged crimes against humanity.
Irwin Cotler, Canada's former (Liberal) Minister of Justice, was a member of that panel — no Trumpite, he.
I look forward to the reply, and suspect it will not be on Venezuela.
