On Saturday, Aug. 17, we drove to the Perchance Theatre site in Cupids for the afternoon performance of the play “Crippled” written by Paul David Power, directed by Danielle Irvine and dramaturgy by Robert Chafe.
This play did not disappoint the audience as shown by their enthusiastic standing ovation.
We laughed in many places and dabbed tears away at other times.
Paul Power as Tony, Pat Dempsey as Evan and Matt White as Carl rounded out the cast list of three and all are to be commended for bringing the play’s unique characters to life.
Good drama has universal appeal and there are so many universal themes depicted throughout “Crippled.”
Conflicts associated with bullying, homosexuality, loss and bereavement, and physical disability are part of life’s everyday experiences in this presentation.
This is a play that could tour across the province, across the country, and across the world. There are no limits to the effect that this play could have on people everywhere, making us more aware of and more sensitive to others’ pain, and encouraging us to step into their shoes and to see them in a new light.
