In the aftermath of the Jan. 17 mega-snowstorm, with record high winds and very low temperatures, I found myself in a situation that I was locked in my house with record high snow. The entrance to my property was a forbiddingly messy situation.
My neighbour gave me a telephone number which would put me in touch with the military emergency help line. I phoned them, and they promised to come as soon as they could.
Sgt. Lamswood phoned me on the 23rd of January, on a lovely, cold and crisp Thursday morning. Some members of the 37 Combat Engineer Regiment shovelled a path to my backdoor and to my garage door with the help of a snowblower. I invited them in for a hot cup of coffee and some snacks. They didn’t have time to accept my invitation, but they did allow me to bag some snacks for them. I asked them if I could take some pictures of them with the Combat Engineer Regiment’s flag, which they allowed me to do.
Thank you to the 37 Combat Engineer Regiment for helping me out in a difficult and debilitating situation. They did their work cheerfully and kindly. I am gratefully stating that such empathy can only be found in Newfoundland.
Thanks again to the 37 Combat Engineer Regiment.
