Recently, a great former Memorial University professor, Dr. David Close, passed away.

Close specialized in Latin American politics and graduate studies and also at times served as the department head.

Close was charming and always listened to students who came to him with academic inquiries and personal issues. He was generous with his time, advice and knowledge and even gave students gifts.

Two years ago another great former Memorial University political science professor, Dr. Chris Dunne, passed away. Dunne was a Canadian constitutional and government expert who had great empathy for students.

In the Summer of 2002 Dunne was instrumental in helping a struggling grad student attain his MA and in 2005 he gave a great character reference to a student who was going through a difficult time.

Both Close and Dunne made a monumental mark on Memorial by cultivating the statesmen and stateswomen of the future.
