I write regarding the article in The Telegram by Peter Jackson on July 18 (“St. John’s lawyer says lack of political leadership has a lot to do with fear and paranoia: Belief and reality don’t often connect on travel ban, Geoff Budden says”). I agree with Geoff Budden.
I guess it’s safer on the water now then it was before the pandemic.
For years sick people complained about having to leave their cars, and suffered great pain when crossing the ferries between Portugal Cove and Bell Island and were told it was a Transport Canada regulation and they either had to obey or be charged. Fast forward to March 15; since that time, four months later, now no one allowed to leave their cars on the ferry crossing. I guess it’s safer on the water now then it was before the pandemic.
When it comes to the ferry from St. Barbe, N.L. to Blanc-Sablon, Que., anyone from the other three Atlantic provinces can go on that ferry but the people from Blanc-Sablon are not allowed to use it to visit the island of Newfoundland, although they can travel all over Labrador, and people from Labrador can go to Blanc-Sablon and can come to this island whenever they want. My mother would say a lack of compassion, common sense or plain stupid, that’s the problem with our leaders in this province.
